This resource has been designed to be done alongside Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo, but can also be done independently of the novel study. Children will design survival inventions to withstand the environment of a remote island after a shipwreck. They will investigate different weather patterns in a specified area of the world before deciding on what they will need to survive. Children will be encouraged to use different diagrams (annotated, cross-sectional and exploded) to show their ideas before making and evaluating them. Resources are structured around the Key Stage 2 expectations of the 2014 National Curriculum of England with Maths links for Upper Key Stage 2. The pack includes differentiated sheets should they be used in lower Key Stage 2 or for children less able in reading and writing. What’s Included: - Curriculum Links - Handouts **Link also included to digital file for editing and sharing on learning platforms such as Google Classroom and Seesaw.

Updated with new graphics and Google extension This 35-page resource has been designed to use as a guide to designing a Mars Rover with littleBits. Children will first look at previous Mars Rovers and their jobs before designing, making, and evaluating their own Rovers. This Outcome will allow children to use the Design - Make - Evaluate - Technical Knowledge threads of the 2014 National Curriculum of England’s Design & Technology document. littleBits don’t have to exclusively be used for the Outcome - Lego Robotics (WeDo) and simple circuit kits can also be used. Teachers are encouraged to also have thin card, sugar paper and adhesives available to create the rovers with the circuits inside. UPDATED with new graphics and HANDS-ON application of fractions for DEEPER LEARNING This resource has been made using the fractions, decimals and percentages objectives for Year 6 from the 2014 National Curriculum of England: Use common factors to simplify fractions; use common multiples to express fractions in the same denomination Compare and order fractions, including fractions > 1 Add and subtract fractions with different denominators and mixed numbers, using the concept of equivalent fractions Multiply simple pairs of proper fractions, writing the answer in its simplest form (¼ x ½ = ⅛) Divide proper fractions by whole numbers ( ⅓ ÷ 2 = ⅙) Associate a fraction with division and calculate decimal fraction equivalents (0.375) for a simple fraction (⅜) Identify the value of each digit in numbers given to three decimal places and multiply and divide numbers by 10, 100 and 1000 giving answers up to three decimal places Multiply one-digit numbers with up to two decimal places by whole numbers Use written division methods in cases where the answer has up to two decimal places Solve problems which require answers to be rounded to specified degrees of accuracy ADDITIONALLY there is a HANDS-ON FRACTION, DECIMAL, AND PERCENTAGE PRACTICE WITH FOOD for children to apply their understanding in context with energy bites. The pack can be used for reinforcement, in Maths centres for review, Morning Maths work, as well as for home learning tasks. ----------------- You might also like: Year 6 Maths: Number and Place Value Year 6 Maths: Operations Year 6 Maths: Ratio & Proportion Year 6 Maths: Algebra Year 6 Maths BUNDLE
